Charge Nurse - MDU - Medical Detox Unit
Under supervision, to perform professional nursing duties in the care and services to patients and their families in an acute care and non-acute care facility; to assist physicians and carry out their orders; and to do other work as required.

This position requires advanced knowledge and skills in providing care and service to patients with complex problems and needs. Responsibilities are expanded to include participation in activities relating to quality assurance, policy and procedure review/revision, in-service education and staff development.

Education

Associate Degree or higher in Nursing through an accredited college.

Experience

1-2 years� experience in Acute Care setting, Med/Surg preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

The following are REQUIRED upon hire

BLS Certification

ACLS Certification

BAC


Knowledge of:

The principles, methods, and techniques of Chemical Dependency nursing including developing and implementing treatment plans and counseling patients with Chemical Dependency, Chronic Pain, and/or emotional disorders.

The principles of interviewing and problem solving methods.

The types of mental health and/or Chemical Dependency/Chronic Pain resources found in the community and their function.

The use and effects of psychotropic drugs, medical detoxification protocols and other medications.
Signs and symptoms of withdrawal for alcohol, CNS stimulants, opiates, CNS depressants and other drugs of abuse
