CENTRAL SERVICE TECHNICAL - OPERATING ROOM - SURGERY
Under supervision, to maintain equipment and supplies in a state of sterility to be used in special procedures and surgery and; to maintain medical and surgical asepsis and principles of universal precautions at all times.
Positions in this class provide technical sterile supply services at the hospital�s operating room.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be:
Graduation from high school, possession of a Certified of Proficiency issued by the California Sate Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. examination.
One-year experience in a hospital central supply or in an acute care setting operation preferred.
Preferred is a Certification as a Central Service Technician, CA Central Service Association or current certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCMM)
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Principles of growth and development over the life span of patient population.
Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures.
The more common medical equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting.
To assess and interpret information to identify patient�s age specific needs in the following areas: Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
Learn aseptic and sterile techniques.
Learn the terminology of parts and supplies associated with area of assignment.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Learn quickly the specific operations of a medical treatment unit.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
Work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.
Keep simple records
Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.
